Strategic leadership for charities and social impact organisations

I’ve spent my career working inside charities — leading teams, building organisations, and stepping in when things aren’t working.

Most recently, I was CEO of musicALL, where I grew the organisation and secured long-term funding to support young people with additional support needs across Scotland.

Now I work with charities who need experienced leadership — without bringing in a full-time CEO.

What makes me different is how I work.

I’m good at quickly understanding what’s really going on — not just what’s being said, but what’s underneath it. I can see patterns across people, systems and structures, and get to the heart of issues quickly.

I’m neurodivergent, with ADHD. In practice, that means I tend to spot things others miss, ask direct questions, and stay with complex problems until they’re properly worked through.

I don’t leave things half-resolved or sitting in the “too difficult” category.

I am naturally entrepreneurial and bring a growth mindset to situations. In practice that means I spot opportunities and help board, leaders and teams move forward with new perspectives and fresh ambition.

Alongside that, I have a strong sense of fairness and empathy. I care about organisations doing the right thing — for their teams, and for the people they exist to support.

So I don’t just help you make a plan.

I help you face what’s actually going on, make clear decisions, and move forward.

Leadership in practice

Over the past 15 years, I’ve worked with charities and public service organisations to strengthen strategy, improve sustainability and deliver meaningful change.

Here are a few examples of that work in practice.

Case Study: musicALL

Scaling an inclusive education charity

As CEO of musicALL, I led a period of significant growth — strengthening governance, securing long-term funding and expanding delivery across Scotland.

I introduced a clear service model, built national partnerships, and embedded lived experience in decision-making.

This work positioned musicALL as a recognised national provider, creating more consistent, high-quality opportunities for young people with additional support needs.

Case Study: Citizens Advice

Diversifying Services & Future-Proofing Delivery

I worked with Citizens Advice services to strengthen governance, redesign service delivery and improve long-term sustainability.

I supported the shift from reactive, face-to-face provision to a more structured, multi-channel model, aligned with growing demand and changing needs.

This created more accessible, efficient and sustainable services — improving consistency for both clients and frontline teams.

Income Generation and Sustainable Funding Strategies

I’ve worked with charities to align strategy, governance and income — strengthening long-term sustainability.

I’ve supported organisations to refine their direction, develop strong funding propositions and secure multi-year investment from major funders and public bodies.

This helps organisations move from short-term survival to more stable, planned growth.

Thinking about what comes next for your organisation?

If things feel unclear, stuck or under pressure, that’s usually a sign something needs properly worked through — not just discussed.

I work with charities and social impact organisations at exactly those points.

Whether you’re navigating change, questioning your direction, or need experienced leadership to steady things and move forward, I bring clarity, challenge and momentum.

If that sounds useful, the best place to start is a conversation.
